Two students from the Special Program in Journalism represented Tarlac Province and won in the Regional Essay Writing Contest on July 9.

Christia Felice R. Espiritu (10-Olivine) and Danielle Ellyma T. Bayani (9-Calcium) grabbed first and second place, respectively.

The said competition was held at SACOP Epatha Development Center in Maimpis City, Pampanga.
​
It was held by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme, "Katatagan sa Kalamidad ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan,".
​
Espiritu and Bayani were trained by Technology and Livelihood Education teachers Kenneth Dimatulac and Ed Ibañez who are part of the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

"Our safety during disasters doesn't just lie in the hands of the DRRMC's and resilience is most achievable when we work hand in hand with them and become proactive as well," Espiritu explained in her piece.
​
The scribes were accompanied by Tarlac Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training Officer Sherwin P. Rosales who educated them on disaster resilience and proactivity before the competition.
